This project has been fully engineered and bids received June 2026. The engineering work was partially with a Long Island Sound Future Fund (LISFF) grant of $1.5MM. Two options were designed and bid:
(1) Full gravity option, which is preferred. (It has a higher initial cost but has virtually no maintenance.) And
(2) A Low-Pressure system, where each property has its own pump. This approach has a lower initial cost because pipes can be shallow. But with pump maintenance, the long-term 30-year cost is the same in both cases.
The best Bid for the Gravity option is $8,000,000. The price for the Low-Pressure option is $5,000,000. In both cases the cost includes about $500,000 in soil contamination remediation for VOCs found in the area which could have been from farming activity a century ago.
